Wk8 EOC Events of the Industry

  1. Pax
The PAX convention is a great place for someone either looking to get involved into the gaming industry, is already involved in the gaming industry or even for someone who simply loves to game to go out check out and have some fun.  Many different companies go to this convention so it would be a great way to go out and network, meet people and introduce yourself and make yourself known.  You can make friends that maybe did a job with a company briefly but still have connections, or even get to know someone already involved and set yourself up in a positive light in front of them.  Its a laid back situation where people network, play games and even hold conferences about what is going on in the gaming community.
  1. GameStop Expo
This convention is one I just recently heard about, it is based around the company GameStop, which if you don’t know is a retail company who sells video games, consoles and accessories.  With this convention not only will you be meeting people involved in many different companies, but also those involved in the selling of video games themselves.  It would be a fun event to hang around network, socialize and even play some video games with other enthusiasts.
  1. E3
The E3 expo is a little more selective with those who may or may not attend.  This expo is not really for just anyone to show up, in fact if you do not have some sort of affiliation with the industry or a company in the video game industry, more than likely you will not be able to attend.  This particular convention is meant for those either already in the industry to sit around talk with their competitors, see what new things are being brought into the industry and to socialize with those looking to get into the industry that may only be students at the time.
  1. LVL UP Expo
LVL UP Expo is a much smaller venue than the rest.  It is on a more local scaling when it comes to the other conventions listed.  However it is still a good way to gain connections, they have their own guests who are into the business, usually in all different fields of entertainment.  You can meet other gamers, you can meet artists and even some people who may have worked in a company before, such as voice actors or well known cosplayers.
  1. GDC
GDC is a large convention mostly geared around those in the industry.  The prices are decent to try to get in and the venue has many different events within the convention.  There are many different conferences about what is going on in the industry, how some companies achieved the goals to their games, and even tutorial conferences to help you better the skills you may already have, or teach you skills you were not aware you could learn.  Great way to network with those who are already in the industry and great way to learn how to get into and ahead in said industry.

Week 7 EOC : Tell Me About Your Career Goals

I have always had career goals set up in mind, from the time I was still in High school till, up to now.  I have even managed to achieve a few goals as of now, for one I found that I can understand the body and how it works when it moves fairly well.  I found this with my first time doing a rig for a lizard like character.  I did a little research found how different bones lined up for most lizard creatures with similar body style and lined it up as such.  Then I proceeded to skin it so that the body itself bent the way it should with the skeleton rig that I created.  It didn’t take me too long and it came out really well, especially for my first time and was used in a minigame that my team was creating.   My next achievement is that in of a production of a game, I did a lot of coding that was needed and am working on skinning the rigs for the characters we have set up.  This achievement is into making a game as a part of a team, showing that I can work with others.  All of this shows me that I can work in a team and get work done that is necessary to complete for an entire team.  All of which is necessary for when I get into a larger spot of the game design world, this leads to my current goal, which is to not only graduate but start my grounding in my chosen industry.  I will be doing this by joining into a company and be added into a team of said company.  Then when I reach that point, it will be a key factor into how I evaluate my next job opportunity.

More to DWP

The deeper meaning behind The Devil Wears Prada is a couple of different parts.  Part one is to "dress for success", this does not necessarily mean to dress in a suit and tie, but to dress to fit the part of the job you are going for.  Observe the environment of which the job you are trying to get has, pay attention to what those who work there already and dress accordingly when you go to an interview, probably even dress a step higher then them.  The next is to prepare for your interview, not only gather questions that you can ask about the job and company.  However also prepare by gathering your own information about the company and possibly who it is you will be interviewing with.  Know about the past and present situations of the company so that you do not come off as ignorant to everything that is going on during said interview.

Look Deeper

The move The Swingers is about a man who is down on his luck after just getting out of a six year relationship.  During the movie the man is slowly attempting to get "out there" in the social/dating seen, building up confidence slowly with each shut down along the way till he reaches a better end game.  There are always more to movies then what is set out plain in sight for the public too see, sometimes you can take a movie that seems like it has nothing to do with you or your situation and make connections that are very similar to your own situation.  In this case you can take this mans trials of being more social and getting out there in the dating scene as undergoing multiple interviews.  This making each attempt at talking to a different girl seem more like practice interviews each time he fails.  Him learning a little something different about himself, what he had done wrong and what to do to make it better.  After each attempt he gets a little more confident and responds better and more clearly to every and any question thrown his way.  This, I as a student getting close to finishing school, can take as a learning tool to take each interview seriously and to pay attention to how I go about it, pay attention to my mistakes and prepare better so that I do better and better each interview.

My Voice

My Voice

I am an artist currently focusing in the field of Video Game Design.  I seek to tell others stories in every way that I can, from characters and how they look, what they wear and how they move, to dialogue, either through text, a description of what is going on in the story or audio from someone speaking or the sounds produced from said environment.  I enjoy all the different ways a story can be told and brought to life, this is why I decided to get into this field, I see video games as a way to use every medium to tell the stories I want to tell and get others involved and feel for the story.  I also seek to bring others together with my stories, to show everyone that they are not alone, that other people feel the same, think similarly and have maybe even gone through similar situations of struggle or success.  I not only seek to tell my stories but to tell the stories that others have thought of, to tell these stories correctly so that no important detail is left out, no rage left unfueled, no joy left silent.

Elevator Introduction (about a long sentence)

I am an artist, problem solver and story teller who strive in the field of Video Game Design.  I seek to create entertaining, immersive and intriguing stories that will effect and be remembered by many.  I want everyone who comes in contact with my ideas to connect not just with the story, but with others who have their own connection, whether it is similar or completely different.   I also hope to bring out the creativity in others and drive them to bring to life their own ideas.
